Greenspace Conservation Program
Also known as the Tree Board, the Madison Greenspace Commission (GSC) leads the local
community forestry effort. Since 1990, this committed board of volunteers has provided a focus for the conservation of the municipality's natural resources. Madison is considered to be a Sustained Level Community by the Georgia Forestry Commission. This board works cooperatively to sponsor establishment of additional greenspace with the Madison-Morgan Recreational Authority and the new Madison-Morgan Conservancy.

GREENSPACE HIGHLIGHTS:
Madison Tree Inventory completed With the help of an Urban & Community Forestry Grant from the Georgia Forestry Commission the city now has a complete inventory of all trees located on public property. This information will aid in the management of these important resources.
Tree City USA - 13 Years! The National Arbor Day Foundation designated Madison as a Tree City in 1990. The program recognizes active tree boards throughout the nation and is sponsored in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and USDA Forest Service.

T.R.E.E. Program - The Ricketts Environmental Excellence Program This shared community investment program ~ initiated with the Ricketts' bequest of $25,000 ~ utilizes earned interest from a non-expendable to fund annual tree grants. The Ricketts Trust contributes half of the tree purchase costs, the citizen contributes the other half, and the City contributes the labor to plant the tree. Madison gains another tree for the community forest.
